Discord gets banned in PH
Telco companies have started to make it inconvenient for users who use the app for good intentions. Thankfully, there is a workaround. (PSA)

I was checking out my Discord server when, to my surprise, I couldn't view all of my attachments: links, videos, and images. Just text. I thought it was just the slow internet. But no. After a quick internet search to check if Discord was down, I had to rush to my laptop and make the necessary back-ups.
I use Discord to manage our wedding expenses. One server for each vendor. Easy to track. It's the segregation that made me choose it as compared to the slow G-Drive. Just before writing this post, I had transferred all the information in our wedding server to Telegram, which I deleted in my devices almost two years ago. I opted for Signal, but my wife doesn't have one.
So apparently... the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center has given Reddit and Discord an ultimatum to set up offices in the country or face ban. What a hassle! And this is because students have found a way to shoot people in their respective schools? This is equivalent of banning the use of cars to elimitate vehicular accidents.
In another article, telcos such as SMART and Converge still allow access to the app. But that's as of this writing. My household uses PLDT. Which explains my inability to view my media attachments on the app.
I believe the root cause of such terrorism is the disconnect between child and parents. Which is such a basic thing! We've had Discord and other similar apps for so long and we've never had this problem. Banning Discord doesn't solve the problem, it'll just redirect these ill-minded human beings to find other ways to get in touch, and there are many more platforms out there!
I blame the AI slop that parents consume instead of building a relationship with their children. I blame the gun owners who don't know how to safekeep their firearms. I blame the economy in which forces parents to work harder and let alone endure the hourly commutes.
I don't know when this Discord issue will be resolved. I can't stand by and wait. Discord was my back-up platform. And when the back-up shows any signs that it's going to shits, it's time to back-out.
Thankfully, there's a workaround.
A netizen from X shows how to reconfigure your WiFi settings.
Use 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 instead of the default DNS 192.168.137.1.
Make sure you delete the latter.

I wouldn't take this workaround for granted. It was just enough for me to make the necessary transfers and have another back-up at hand.
