Michael Anthony Roxas, OD

A picture of me, side view, laughing.

I’m a doctor currently based in city of Antipolo, Philippines. 🇵🇭

I’m also a writer, a programmer, and a husband. Made Pagsusuri, and other web pages for myself.

I often write on Bear Blog, but you can also find me on X or email me through michaelroxas@duck.com.

If you’re that interested, you can read about what I’m doing now or take a look at my CV.

I’m an optometrist

I received my Doctor of Optometry degree from Centro Escolar University - Manila in 2020. However, due to the pandemic, I was not licensed and registered until 2022. Shortly after, I got my first retail job.

I write

I’m an avid reader and write on Bear Blog about what I learn and ponder on. Blogging makes learning stick more and serves as a historical artifact on what and how I would think and write in the past.

If you ever read posts relating to optometry, please take them with a grain of salt. Information you read may be outdated over time. What I post isn’t limited to optometry, either.

I like to code

It started with automating spreadsheets. And then a “Hello World” during the pandemic. Now I build apps for personal use (maybe sell some in the future).

Programming led me to blogging. A brief read on Michael Hartl’s Learn Enough Ruby on Rails Tutorial Preface led me to Derek Sivers’ website which subsequently led me to Bear Blog.

Some coding projects

Pagsusuri.com, an examination of conscience web app for Catholics. It’s primarily intended for Filipinos preparing for Confession. It summarizes "commited" sins that one confesses to the priest. Available in English, Tagalog, and Bisaya. It’s inspired by the same feature in the Laudate app (also available in Android).

Frame and Lens Calculator was intended to present lens options for my patients in my retail days. Everybody at my store does this with a calculator and gives quotes on paper. I made this for my own efficiency to compare prices without having to write things down.

SMS Spiel Picker was another web app I made for the same company I worked for. We used this to update customers on the status of their eyeglasses: whether it's ready for pick up or delayed due to delivery issues.

Married to AK

Whom I met in my freshman year. We shared the same class. After a year, we started dating. A decade later, we got married.
