A fresh start
Re-reading my posts from last year, I realized a lot has changed — either I never bothered writing a follow-up, or I was so inconsistent that I’d basically catch myself in a lie. One post from last year said I deleted all my Meta apps and said that was it. For good, eh?
But as of this writing? I have Instagram, Threads, Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp. The whole Meta package. Geez. And I have a few more social media apps on the side.
I write on this blog primarily for myself — an audience, second. I’m not chasing likes or upvotes here. And if I can’t even be honest with myself when writing publicly — what’s the point in publishing?
Some posts were so petty that if my younger self read it, I’m certain that he wouldn’t want to grow up. I’m also considering teaching soon — and if I ever plan on sharing my links with students, nothing’s stopping them from digging through the entire blog.
I’d rather keep those petty moments in conversation, not somewhere on the World. Wide. Web.
There are a few posts I’d love to revisit, but they need some proofreading first. I’ll re-upload those sometime in the future.
What’s going to change from here?
I’m going for quality over quantity from hereon out. This means getting a few trusted eyes on my drafts before hitting publish, or just letting them sit in my Drafts folder until they’re actually ready. One bad habit I’ve had is proofreading after publishing, which usually ends with me un-publishing the post and re-uploading it.
I’m also holding myself to a higher standard of honesty, and committing to writing follow-up posts whenever something changes.
I’ve turned off1 discoverability on this blogging platform — so it won't show up in any of the Discovery pages.
And lastly, I want to keep things simple here. There will probably be new sections and categories added down the line, but at its core, this blog is meant to stay lean.
After all, what you’re reading right now is my digital garden. I’m the (only) one who gets to trim things here.
