Michael's Blog 📜

Hello Bear!

I found Bear Blog through Derek Sivers on his 'now' page. I've been switching platforms like Jekyll, 11ty, Hugo, Substack, Hashnode, etc. I struggled to work with those platforms due to the clutter and the frustration of having a lot of things to set up while getting the actual things done.

The builder of this site is generous to give discounts for a yearly subscription. I'd like to test this out for a year and see how it goes. I've been tinkering with CSS and already added some scripts. So far, I've been enjoying the nostalgia in customizing your own websites.

Why Bear?

Authenticity

I am no longer active on the Meta apps. I've been trying to get away from the toxic internet. I miss seeing my friends' posts on X. Twitter/X has become saturated with ridiculous threads that obviously made by AI. Bear seems to be one of the few platforms where authenticity exists. I now appreciate wrong grammar and mispunctuated sentences. Because I know that it was made by a human and to err is human.

Minimalism

This platform has been minimalistic enough for me to focus on drafting and publishing. I have been writing everyday since December of 2024. Now I have a place on where to put these written thoughts. I'd like to see how I grow this blog while maintaining its unbloated UI.

Built to last

I publish my thoughts in the hopes of my life's work be read by my (grand)children after I kick the bucket. I hope they learn from mistakes that I made, and make better the things I did good.
