First job

When I learned that I had passed the licensure exams in 2022, I immediately pressed 'SEND' to all possible employers. in optical retails, eye centers, hospitals, and small clinics.

Optical companies are always expanding. And with the low supply of optometrists, the competition to land a job isn't that tough. It comes down to preferences. The location, commute, company culture, the people you already know who got in.

If there's one advice that I'd give to anyone seeking their first job: know what it's like to be a customer of that company. Remember that experience so that when you get the job, you have an idea on how you can make the experience better.

Need money fast? Get into retail.

Need more experience? Get into eye centers or hospitals or be an apprentice to an ophthalmologist.

In my case, I needed the money more than the in-depth experience. Because I thought, "I'm getting some experience anyway, might as well grab the money."

So I went with the retail company that gave the smoothest customer experience. It's unfortunate that I had to quit within the year for a job that required less of my time at work.

I still remember my first day. I was not yet in uniform so I was greeted like any other customer.

"Welcome to OWNDAYS."
