Bear Blog Questions Challenge

I was browsing through the 'Discover' page and came across Ava's blog. It's not hard to see the challenge link on her blog's home page.

So I thought, "why not?"

Why did you make the blog in the first place?

I wanted to get away from social media while still expressing myself online. Tbh, I am bothered by the impact of my post with the numbers of likes and shares. That's why I removed the upvote button on this blog. I wanted the blog to create a short reference to me, mainly to express my humanity more.

Why did you choose Bear Blog?

I learned about Bear Blog reading through Derek Sivers. After reading the Bear Manifesto, I was convinced to upgrade.

Have you blogged on other platforms before?

In 2015, I tried WordPress, too cluttered.

During the COVID lockdown, I tried creating again with Jekyll and 11ty, but I didn't always had access to a laptop to do set up the code. That was a huge hurdle for me when writing.

In 2022, I also tried other blogging platforms like Substack and Hashnode, but like WordPress, I didn't want all that extra clutter.

Do you write your posts directly in the editor or in another software?

I write on Simplenote when I'm on my phone. It has a built-in markdown preview. When I'm on the computer, I use an online markdown editor When I'm ready to publish, I just copy paste to Bear.

When do you feel most inspired to write?

When my mind is racing with thoughts or when I need to express something and I have no one to talk about it with. Writing has been a means of decluttering my mind, a cleansing process.

Do you publish immediately after writing or do you let it simmer a bit as a draft?

Both. Haha. I've been doing the former when I should be doing the latter. I find it a mistake to publish too soon. Because I'd find some errors when I re-read it online, and the way it was structured can be confusing.

I would un-publish the article then let it simmer in Simplenote. There I re-read, re-write, repeat. When I'm ready, I publish it again.

Your favorite post on your blog?

So far, my favorite is my first post.

I've been wanting to commit to my writing for so long. The first post reminds me why I started in the first place. It is my first seed. And like a digital garden, I look forward to see the blog list grow through time.

Any future plans for your blog? Maybe a redesign, changing the tag system, etc.?

Lately, I keep on changing the theme of the blog. I don't expect it to change anytime soon so I can focus on writing. Just changed it again lol. See changelog.
